I too am a new Miata owner. I bought a 91 BRG from a dealer in Walnut Creek, Ca and had it shipped here to the Chicago burbs. I am not new to roadster ownership as I also own the original Miata, a Datsun 2000. I plan to sell the Datsun in the spring, when the prices are a little better and I have finished replacing the interior.
I have my first, of probably many, questions. The PO did some minor upgrades. A Black Widow security system which I am still trying to figure out. Also Koni adjustable. The question is to the wheels issue. They are Moto 15x7 and, if I am reading the abbreviations on the inside of the wheel correctly, the offset is 35, not the correct 45mm. What are the results of this and do I need to start looking to replace them or not. I do plan to pick up a set of OEMs from a later M1 and mount DOT autocross tires on them for Solo 1 and Solo 2 but do like the look of the MOTOs. If the adverse effects are really only at the edge performance, I will not worry too much and just keep them.

John,
Welcome to the bunch! There was a guy at a SBR SoloII in October with a Datsun
Roadster...neat little car (but I spanked him!). LOL As for the wheel
offset...assuming that is what the wheel really is, you'll be fine. The lower
the offset number, the further out in the wheel well the wheel/tire assembly
sits, widening the track. We're having real trouble deciding which wheels to
buy for our Spec Miata right now because of the choice in offsets. We'd like
it as wide as possible without totally screwing up the car's handing (some of
the race wheels go as wide as a 30mm offset!!) On the street & for agressive
driving you'll be fine with the 35's.

John- not familiar with Moto (was that a typo maybe and they're Momo? If
so, they're likely _very_ heavy), but they're likely quite a bit heavier
than the OE alloys. The offset won't hurt the car significantly, but will
change the feeling of steering, and the excess wheel weight will as well.
How much heavier they are over OEM will determine how much 'worse' the car
feels....I guess in short what I'm saying is this:
An offset of 40-45mm is ideal.
OE wheels or Rota SubZeros or other lightweight wheel _will_ make the car
feel better driving...pretty noticeably especially from a heavy wheel
withthe wrong offset going to a more 'correct' wheel. This isn't just
gospel or a wives tale about lighter wheels and the correct offset- I've run
everywhere from 20mm-45mm offset on the various cars, and it does make a
difference.
Don't worry about it _immediately_, but I expect you'll be surprised at the
difference once you get rid of what most likely are yet another set of heavy
aftermarket wheels..
