I have had two alternator/water pump belts come off on me in the last 4
months (10k miles). The first one had a couple of years and at least 50k
miles on it so it did not strike me as anything major wrong, and it happened
only a few miles from home, so no big deal. Now the newly installed belt
self-destructs 50 miles from home. Had to have towed to the Mazda dealer
and $250 later (including the tow) it runs again. I told the service tech
my sob story, he supposedly checked for proper alignment, puller damage etc.
He did not find anything, but he sure did complain about taking my JR CAI
off!!! Does anybody have any idea why my car might be tossing belts? I
know how to install belts, so I do not think it was operator error. The car
is a 90', it has PS and A/C, no trouble with that belt though.

Thanks, Shaun
