When we got married my wife had a 94 M Edition. We enjoyed the car for a few years but sold it in 1994 when our second child was born. For my wifes Birthday in 2019 I surprised her with this 90 Crystal White A Package Miata. We joined the Peachtree Miata Club, one of the oldest clubs formed in April of 1990. I am currently starting my second year as Vice President and we are having a blast with driving and social events.

I recently bought my 1st Miata after lots and lots of research...I found it online in Henderson, NV (Las Vegas area) at Findlay Mazda. It’s a 2014 silver club, prht, 6spd manual. It had only10947 miles on it, so obviously not a daily driver. The deal was too good to pass up, so I flew into Las Vegas and drove it back home (732 miles) to Post Falls, ID. I’ve had it home about a week, and can honestly say it’s the best and most fun vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Hello,

On Wednesday Feb 22 at 2:20 PM Pacific Time, the main front-end web server for this website and all the websites in the AutoShrine Network went down. Technicians were dispatched, but the server would no longer power on, probably due to a motherboard or power supply failure.

This was just one of five servers that serve this website to millions of visitors. There have been intermittent problems with this particular machine for a while - I was planning on replacing it next month. No data was lost, as I had already moved the database to a new machine several months ago.

I've been working long days since it went down to restore service as quickly as possible. Since I had to build a new front-end web server from scratch anyway, I've taken this opportunity to upgrade the underlying technology to improve security and add features. The new server is also more fault tolerant.

One major improvement is the new web server supports encryption. No more warnings about insecure passwords when you sign in, and it allows me to add new payment technology to the website. Your web browser should now indicate "Secure" or show a lock icon to indicate this website is encrypted. All old, insecure links should be automatically redirected to the new secure pages.

Since many components of the web server have changed, there may be new bugs, broken features, or performance issues. It's going to take a few weeks to get everything back to normal.

If you paid for a Supporting Membership between Wednesday Feb 20 and Thursday Feb 22, please check your Home Page and Payment History to verify they were processed properly. (both can be found under the "My Account" menu in the black navigation bar across the top of the website)

If you find anything on the website is not working the way it was before, please open a support ticket by clicking "Website problem? Send us a message" at the bottom of any page.

Thanks for your patience,

Hello everyone,

Due to a complete failure of the database server, we went down yesterday at about 4PM Pacific Time. With a bit of ingenuity and a bit of luck, I was able to recover all data and provisioned a new server overnight.

Everything should be working normally now, with no posts or other data lost.

Ironically, it happened while I was working on a better system to back up the database.

Thank you for your patience.

It's October 22nd, 2017, a day I'll never forget! And that is in thanks to the fact that today, I have received my first car. And what a car! I was given by my parents a 2002 Mazda MX-5 and I love the car. To my disappointment, I had to leave the car in the dealership due to the fact that by law, The dealership must inspect the car for safety reasons and It was purchased on a Sunday so I wasn't able to have the Mechanic to stay at the dealership and have a look at it. Anyhow, the car is mine, and I've never been so happy in my life!

Joined MX5 Miata World the day after a severe storm did a lot of damage. One local car dealer had 200 cars damaged, including four 2017 Corvettes. My old MX5 was undamaged.
Currently I am mulling over the possibility of organizing a very small rally that will run in August over local roads. It is experimental in nature since I am an amateur at creating such an event. Must proceed with limited number of entrants.

Hello everyone,

Now that the database upgrade is nearing completion, and I finally have the ability to do "hot backups" without taking the website offline for maintenance, I'd like to give everyone a little bonus.

Effective immediately, all Private Message (PM) storage limits are now doubled

The new database servers are performing well under load, so I'll be continuing the database conversion process to the new layout for all websites, which will pave the way for better replication and backup systems.

Please expect to see the "Scheduled maintenance" message on Friday night, February 17, 2017 starting at 9:00 PM Pacific time. I expect the work to take 4-6 hours as I want to take a full backup of the system for safety before making any changes.

Once the websites are back up, there should be no visible difference in the operation or performance of the website. Schedule:

Jan 4 - HealeyExp, CycleKart, all non-forum tables (all sites)
Feb 10 - TriumphExp forums (posts, attachments, search db)
Feb 17 (planned) - MGExp forums, all other website forums

Thanks,
Skye Nott

Hello everyone,

You've probably noticed that this website has had some unplanned downtime lately. I'm not sure about the exact cause, it's probably an intermittent hardware failure as the techs keep finding the main server powered off at the console. I've been rebooting and repairing the database as needed to keep things running, while making plans to transition to brand new servers with updated database, webserver, and firewall software.

The good news is I've already run the migration plan on some of my smaller websites, and it's working brilliantly. The bad news is that the frequency of crashes on the old server seem to be increasing, so I'm going to have to accelerate the transition schedule for all the websites and do a lot of the changes, well, right now. That's what all the downtime today (Jan 4) has been about.

By the time you're reading this, the website will be running off new transactional database servers - which means no more biweekly downtime to do backups, better security, stability, replication support, and better support for new features in the future. This is only the first, but probably the biggest, step in the plan to update the hardware & software platform this website runs on.

Unfortunately due to the emergency database move, I haven't been able to fully test compatibility and scaling. There may be some bugs or slowness to iron out over the next few days. If you encounter a bug or error message, please copy the error message and email me with a description of what you were doing. There's a link to email me (the webmaster) at the bottom of every page.

A little bit of background about me, and this website, as I tend to operate behind the scenes:

This website is part of the AutoShrine Network, a group of 20+ auto enthusiast websites that I've created over the last 10 years that now serves 2.5 million pageviews to 250,000 unique visitors every month and is completely free to access.

I wrote most of the code from scratch (I used to be a software engineer) and I'm the sole owner and operator of the whole operation. You may not know that many car forums on the Internet are owned by two large corporations, both of which have approached me with offers, but I turned them down as I don't believe they would deliver the same kind of quality online club experience for you.

In addition to webmaster duties, coding new features, html/css/javascript design for desktops, tablets, and smartphones, and sysadmin duties like provisioning servers, creating backup plans, security, monitoring, and system upgrades, I also provide personal support to 80,000+ registered members, review edit and publish calendar events, review edit and publish tech articles in the library, manage all the social media pages for each site (80+ feeds), and moderate the forums. That's the short list.

It's often more than a full time job, and I've been on call 24/7 for years, but I'm very happy to provide something that useful to so many people and keeps so many cool old cars (and karts and trucks and scooters) on the road.

I thank all of you for your contributions whether it's posting answers to question or financial support, and I promise to continue to provide access to all features and information on this website, to anyone in the world, without charge. I can provide the platform, but it's YOU that makes this a community.

If you haven't already, please consider becoming a Supporting Member.

100% of proceeds go towards operating and improving this website. The new database servers alone cost an additional $300/month.

I've got great plans for new and improved features in 2017, and I'd love to be able to contract out some work - like finishing writing the Help Topics, and catching up on editing tech library articles - so I can focus on the big stuff.

But for the next few months, it's going to be all about finishing the new servers & software platform!

Thanks in advance for your patience through this upgrade process.

I am perplexed at some of the changes a former owner made. My mechanic is stating that the seat heaters did not originally come with the car. In addition what was the socket for a cigarette lighter, which I use to charge my phone, was modified installing a button. In attempting to switch to the original, that seems to also be more of a challenge in getting part from the dealer.

Right back in 1969 I purchased my first sports car a brand new MGB.
I did love my MGB however circumstances not long after the time of purchase insisted that I go more conservative in my choice of a vehicle. Sadly I sold the car that I loved. Since I sold that first MGB I had always yearned for another and some 3 years ago I had an opportunity to buy another MG, same colour, same model as the car I quit 46 years ago and bought it.
The car was a lovely clean vehicle however did need some fixing in some mechanical and body cosmetic areas, but it was a good honest MGB. I spent many dollars getting this beaut little car back to as near original as I could and prettied it up with a few other additions. After having the head totally reconditioned at a cost of over $2200.00 (Aus) some months ago the car was as good as new, if not better. I had run out of things to do to it and decided to put it on the market and look to buying a new sports car, if successful. I had seen cars of my cars vintage sitting on the market for months and didn't put much hope in selling it, and besides that, I really didn't know if I really wanted to. The car was listed for 20 Minutes and was sold within that period.
I have since purchased my new MX5 and it is a lovely car, and a totally different drive to the MG, but gee I miss my old MGB and I really don't know if I did the right thing. Time will only tell, I guess.
Time is now running out for me to do any more changes as I am now 70 years old. So I guess I had better make up my mind, quick smart.

Purchased in NH, I'm 4 or 5th owner

Very solid but have discovered some issues since owning

1) Critters. Previous home to one or more critters. There was a nest back by the gas filler
2) Couldn't remove/replace air filter, all the nuts/bolts seized. Drilled out, discovered performance problem, that's right, critters had been living on the filter for long time. new filter was = 20+hp boost. Still have to resolve the filter cover issue
3) Water - Sills & trunk, sills eventually dried out after putting in garage, pulled out liner etc. Need to find source and open up sill drains

:-D

After sitting in a gated lot at the local body shop since March '14, she finally has a spot inside the shop. At the end of May the shop owner asked me if I wanted to start doing some work on it (how could I say no). So the front fascia and rear bumper were removed and the wet sanding began, after completing this, I removed the side mirrors, rear spoiler, gas tank lid and began the process all over again. (I am by no means a professional)

Fast forward to Tuesday July 1, 2014 I began sanding down the stock rims with scotch brite pads and 180 grit sandpaper. Three wheels down one to go and my new rocker panels arrived today as well.

Summer is going by so fast that I hope to enjoy her before it ends.

Hi to my fellow Miata enthusiasts.
I think the Mazda MX-5 Miata represents the best of the iconic British roadsters of the past, especially the '50s and '60s cars such as AC, Allard, Aston-Martin, Austin-Healey, Jaguar, MG, Morgan, Sunbeam, Triumph, etc. while adding a bit of comfort, convenience, and reliability to the sports car experience.
I grew up loving the experience of top-down motoring and had the pleasure of owning and driving several of those older models in my youth, including a white '59 Austin-Healey 'bug-eye' Sprite, a '64 MGB, '66 MGB GT, and '67 MG Midget (all BRG), a gold '63 Sunbeam Alpine, 2 Triumph Spitfires (a red '65 and a BRG '69), a BRG '67 Triumph GT6+ and a silver '69 Jaguar XKE. I loved those cars and still recall, hopefully for a few more years, the adventures and fun I had.
However, the Miata is more fun & much more reliable.

More later. Keep motoring!

We took the Miata for a COLD drive up threw the Adirondacks on 3/24/2012. It has been unseasonably warm this year and when we picked up our SE it was summer like and we drove it about 200 that afternoon of 2/22/2012. It got cold friday and on saturday we enjoyed a ride up threw the mountains, was so diferent without leaves on the trees, no crowds, desolate in Speculator. The lakes have ice remaining.

There is (was) an online registry for 2001 Miata British Racing Green Special Editions. You can find it here: http://www.bucklescomic.com/2001se.html

Unfortunately, that registry has not been updated in several years. It appears the author simply lost interest after selling his own BRG SE. The registry lists 197 cars of a possible 3000 made, but many of those entries are obsolete as cars have been sold, wrecked, drowned (as in Hurricane Katrina), parted out, etc.

I'm trying to update the 2001 SE registry. So far, I've managed to locate another 70+ cars through various Miata sites and many Google searches; I can now account for ~270 of these cars.

If you have one of these 2001 BRG SE's, or had one and sold it, please let me know your Build (Production) number (you can find it here with your VIN: http://bit.ly/zJ2kvE) as well as your Town and State.

Or if you know someone with one of these SE's, please point them to this page.

Thanks... :)

I am the third owner, but maybe the second doesn't count, he only had it for 6 months. The original owners purchased it new when they were already in their 60's! It is my second Miata. The first I bought new in 1991. It was a "B" package also, but Silverstone, kept it for 10 great years and finally had to have another!!

Jeff Field's Journal --

The link to the previous post (so you can follow up on the links within that post), is here - http://consilience.typepad.com/teachers_lounge/2010/06/totaled-the-car-time-for-car-talk-to-do-the-right-thing.html

And now, the poem which Car Talk refuses to air.

On Teaching Your Wife to Drive Her New Miata, or, What is This Clutch Thing Anyway?

To shift, or not to shift? That is the question-
Whether 'tis nobler to brave the
Five-gated synchromesh monster
With its yet untamed demon clutch
And risk the gnashing of teeth in my mad hunt for third,
Or to drive the distance in second gear,
And, by revving past the blessed redline,
Crack a piston or burn a valve.
'Tis better to shift, methinks,
For who shall love me perchance I blow this
DOHC-16V in-line, 4-cylinder fuel-injected engine?
Aye! There's the rub.
For who shall love a shiftless woman
As myself? Yet, is love secured by clutching?
Perhaps 'tis better to seek a neutral ground and
Coast to gentle stop.
No! The risk is not the worth,
For the master would only make his gurgling sounds and Force me start again, and thereby tempt the dreaded stall,
Wherein he would surely stable me and
Ride the pleasured pony himself.
Fie! Fie on him! I shall stall no more. Wherefore did he buy this silver ragtop? Aye, for me, and with half my money! I'll play his dicey little game and yet still may win.
Lo! Win I must!
For with the stall dies respect,
And in that death-like sleep
What dreams may unbidden come?
Grinning motorists in their idiot-proof cars,
Shiftless men in lobster suits who dare stop behind me
on the slightest upgrade.

Ha! I am better than those powerglide simpletons. I guide my own destiny.
Switch the pitch, smell the glove,
Break like the wind,
Leaving strips of Yokahama rubber all over the road,
Proof I stall no more.
I shift when I take the mood.
And if I chance the stall,
So be it.
I am woman.
Who but she can bear the whips and scorns of time
With but a bare bodkin twixt her teeth?
Sisters, oh sisters!
Join with me and together we shall
Bare our broccoli at those leering men
In their over-sized Chevrolets.
But,
Ho! Lo! I ramble.
Soft you now, girlie,
Do the right thing.
"PUT THE CLUTCH IN!"
Oh! Oh! Oh! Yes indeedy I shall. You needn't yell, master.
Your native hue looks far better
Than this tinge you show me now.
I pray you sir, tis done. The clutch is in.
Shall we go a happy motoring?

The following is a copy of a post I made June 13, 2010. Best read from bottom to top.

UPDATE - I'm not surprised, really. I mean, here we have the FBI demolishing MY MIATA, and, at the same time, almost, they arrest Bradley Manning just because he leaked a video showing the murder of innocent civilians. Or, could be they were actually lizards, ya know? I mean the civilians. I pay attention to David Icke cause he's uncovered a lot of under-the-table dealings with the lizard people. I'm guessing that Doug Berman is one of them lizards. Tom and Ray too, maybe. Come to think of it, Obama might well be a lizard... you think I'm kidding!? Look! Anyways... I'm still waiting for Dougie to send me a love note. I'll keep y'all updated as events unfold. Right now I'm gonna smoke me a cigarette and then go kill me some lizards.

UPDATE - I suppose I should have been upfront about this earlier (although I did inform Car Talk producer Doug Berman) - the 1991 Miata stayed in my ex-wife's hands following our amicable divorce in 2001, despite my desperate plea to buy it from her. On October 25, 2009, at approximately 2:40 p.m., I received a horrifying email - my beloved car, the heart and soul of the poem you are about to read, was in a car wreck and, although my ex-wife walked away unhurt, the car was demolished. Now, here's where things gets curious... the other driver, who admitted he was at fault, is an FBI agent. And, he told my ex-wife after the accident, "Don't worry, we'll take good care of you."

There's something fishy going on here, and I think Tom and Ray are somehow connected. (Remember, the flutter of a bat's wings on the other side of the globe could cause your toilet to run.) I find it queer that the object of my affection was destroyed by an FBI agent.

UPDATE - I've started a group on Facebook titled Ignominy, Thy Name is Car Talk, as well as a "cause" titled Stop the degradation! Support this poem! Please join my group and support my cause so I can put the past where it belongs, in the past. I need to forgive and forget. I need to move on. I need to soothe my bruised and battered ego. I need a new Miata!

A long time ago, in a faraway land called Alabama, Jeffrey Field submitted a poem to Tom and Ray at Car Talk. It had previously been published in an early edition of Miata Magazine (he's not sure of the edition - spring/summer/fall/winter?, but it must have been in 1991 or 1992 - the poem was featured alongside another poem written by James Dickey. Far as Field can remember, Dickey's poem had absolutely nothing to do with automobiles, let alone the Miata. However, Field was all puffed up that his poem appeared in the same issue as Dickey's.)

Tom and Ray totally ignored Field's submission, thus inflicting needless mental pain on his enormous ego.

Now that our 2002 Saturn was demolished in a car wreck last Wednesday, Field believes it's time for Tom and Ray to make amends. He asks of them two things.

1. Read the poem on Car Talk

2. Compensate Field with a 2010 Miata and an appearance on their radio show

As Mr. Lee so eloquently spoke, Tom, Ray, it's time for you guys to "do the right thing" (or I may have to hurt myself again).

Posted 2011-04-17 11:44:46 by Jeff Field

We drove to Meyersdale, PA today for the annual PA Maple Festival. The day was cool with bright sunshine instead of the forecasted snow. Rolling through the hills of the Laurel Highlands had both of us laughing. What a perfect day!
