Wow, Larry, you sound just like me.
I've had two MGA MkII's and most recently a '59 Bugeye race car which I just sold. I'm looking at the Miata's and not sure which model I should get. I want a road/track car. I can do some mechanical work as I restored the Sprite to running condition from a "barn find.".
I took the Skip Barber MX-5 3 day school at Road Atlanta last Feb. What a blast driving these cars. And, yes, much more reliable than the older british cars.
Which model do you recommend.

Great to hear from you and we do seem to share some British road car history. Probably not a lot of former "bugeye" owners out there. I used to race mine and one of my Spitfires at SCCA events more than 40 years ago. The bugeye was stripped-down stock and I rebuilt the engine and transmission, but the '67 Spitfire was modified for racing and was the best handling car I've ever driven.
I really think the NB (2nd generation) models are the best. More refined than the 1st generation with all the bugs worked out, but still basic fun-to-drive true sports cars with great handling and plenty of power. It seems to me that each generation since has gotten farther from the genuine sportscar experience.
Best wishes on finding a great Miata - there are still many well-cared-for low-mileage ones out there.
