I drove my 92 Miata down to the car wash and sprayed off all the dust from it sitting for three months. Then I drove it back and reparked it in the parkade at my building.

I washed it. Dried it. I'm entering it in a little local car show tomorrow. I did the same thing, for the first time, last Saturday. Didn't win anything, but had good fellowship with my fellow car club members. The Texas Roadrunners.

Had to have the top replaced. The two straps that control where the top folds as it is lowered had torn free of the top causing leaks. Dealer was no help at all stating that Mazda no longer made the convertible top for my 06 (hard to believe). Went to Coachcraft in Lexington KY. They did an excellent job.
Have been adding chrome accents from IL Motorsport and Moss Miata.

Good for you. I replaced the top on my 1992 three years ago. Got a local shop in Victoria BC, Tommy's Upholstery to do it. $1400. Really only the rear window had gone brown and was cracking but the top was 23 years old.

Never thought of dealers first, only upholstery companies.

Replaced a front driver's fender last summer.

Nothing constructive.

I went out and opened the hood and admired the area.

Today. Nothing. Nor Yesterday. On the 9th I drove it from Abilene TX to Texas Motor Speedway to see an Indy Car Race. I had the windows tinted the week before I went and that really made a difference in the air conditioning. I've been to several NASCAR races but never an Indy Car race. I've no desire to ever go to another Indy Car Race. The cars are so low to the ground and so fast that you really can't follow the race on the track. Of coarse you can see it on the Big Screen at the track. But. If I were going to do that, why spend the money? I can watch it on TV at home for free. After the race, I enjoyed driving back to Abilene TX.

While changing the oil and filter in my driveway yesterday, I started the engine briefly and then shut it down to finish topping up to proper level. After the job was completed, I then had lunch and retired for my daily brief nap (I am 78 years old, after all). When I went to start the car to run an errand, the battery was completely dead - not even a beep with the key in the ignition and the door open, and the odometer did not display. I put the charger on for an hour, and then tried again. Started fine. I ran it at 6000 RPM or more in third gear for three miles, which certainly moved the fresh oil around inside, and let the alternator do its thing. I have kept some small jumper cables in the trunk today while out for a drive in the countryside, but the car performed perfectly, of course. My car is ultra low miles, never driven in winter or poor weather, 15000 miles in 15 years, and I believe that the as-new-looking battery is factory original, so I do not doubt that it has finally reached its expiry date. Might this be some kind of record ? Tomorrow I start shopping in earnest for a replacement battery.

Took it down to the Shell for a quick car wash. Soap and then wax. Brought it back to the condo garage and parked it. First wash in four months as it generally sits.

Much as I liked my original Momo wheel, it sat too close to the column stalks and I kept rapping my knuckles on them. As a bit of a change from the Momo/Nardi norm I picked a Mountney deep dish replacement. Mountney's better known for its traditional wooden-rimmed wheels for MGs, Triumphs and the like, but this new model works well in the MX-5.

Well, I spent a lot of money at the local Mazda dealer for a replacement battery (about $250.00 including taxes and core charge of 18.00) and a friend helped install it, including making some vent hoses as there were none present in my trunk. A couple of days later, I took the "dead" battery to the Canadian Tire Store for a free test, only to find out that it was in perfect health, with CCA measurement at 333 (vs spec of 320). It is not the original issue unit, but dated June 2011 so it is only seven years old - what I am told is average age when in need of replacement. So I now have a spare battery, which I will keep on trickle charge in case I ever need it. It is still a mystery as to what caused the total discharge of the original battery during the oil change - perhaps something was disturbed while reaching through electrical cables to access the oil filter ?
