RPM to speed

Hi Folks. I just recently bought a 1994 MX-5. It came with 17" wheels and tires which the previous owner installed. I know that this must change the gearing somewhat, but they look pretty good. When I am doing 60mph (as shown on the speedo) the tach is showing 3000 rpm. This seems high. Any thoughts?

Find out the stock wheel size from the tyre pressure sticker or a brochure, find the tyre size from the tyres on the car and then use this website.

Then you can see the difference circumference etc. of the two tyre sizes and the speed error etc.

No. My 2000 Miata MX-5 Special Edition has 15" wheels. It's a 6 speed, which I think is a 5 speed with overdrive. Tach says 3,000 RPM @ 60 MPH. 6,000 RPM = 120 MPH.
